According to Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000 in Chicago, Baltimore Orioles owner Peter Angelos gives Orioles GM Andy McPhail permission to trade Brian Roberts. The Cubs scouted Roberts yesterday and the Orioes will scout Cubs players next week. The Cubs may have their new leadoff hitter. If Levine is correct, this deal may happen in the next few days.
My take: This is very good news, very good. It's sounding like all this nonsense is finally coming to an end. The Cubs might be getting their man, and have a real leadoff hitter so Soriano's home runs can actually be with guys on base and not the first at bat of the game.
