Al Executive: Marquis On The Block, Bruce Levine: Brian Roberts

According to an Al Executive: Cubs pitcher Jason Marquis is on the trading block. This might be old news. They may want a reliever or a few prospects back in return. The Oriols have been looking for an "innings eating pitcher" and Marquis may be their man. As we all know we want Brian Roberts so maybe we could include Jason in a deal sending him out to Baltimore. If/when Bedard is traded Roberts may come. The Roberts deal is on the hinges of the Bedard.

Thanks to Cubs Hot Stove:

Bruce Levine of ESPN 1000: Baltimore Orioles GM Andy McPhail has extended the "deadline" to acquire Brian Roberts to February 15 (same day Orioles report to Spring Training.) If no deal is reached by Spring Training: no deal.

My take: Marquis was terrible overpaid, overrated. I'd rather see Lieber, Marshall, and Dempster rather than him, yes Dempster. Now for Roberts. I'm glad there may be some clarification of when the deal will get done. Hopefully a deal is reached for Marquis out, and Roberts in. I'd like to see our roster set as we enter ST so we know what we have to work with. Finger crossed.
