The Cubs made a move today optioning pitcher Carmen Pignatiello to Triple-A Iowa and calling up pitcher Sean Marshall to the big league club. Pignatiello was sent to the minors because manager Lou Piniella wanted pitchers who can give him more innings.

Cubs Call Up Sean Marshall, Send Carmen Pignatiello Down
The Cubs made a move today optioning pitcher Carmen Pignatiello to Triple-A Iowa and calling up pitcher Sean Marshall to the big league club. Pignatiello was sent to the minors because manager Lou Piniella wanted pitchers who can give him more innings.
