Hat tip to Hot Stove Cubbies:
The Brian Roberts trade talks are getting serious. The Orioles want Ronny Cedeno, along with Sean Gallagher, Sean Marshall, or Donald Veal. Epatt or Murton aren't "wanted" though they have been rumored in the deal. Levine can see a trade happening soon so the Cubs can move on to starting pitching. Levine says a possible backup if Cedeno is traded is Alex Cintron. He also says the Cubs have shown interest in Jon Leiber as the back of rotation type guy.
My take: I like the way the Roberts deal talks are going. I'm fine with trading Cedeno (never will get a chance), Sean Gallagher and Sean Marshall. I'd rather keep Veal than Marshall. If that's all Batimore wants Jim Hendry should definately pull the trigger. Alex Cintron... where does he fit in? Jon Leiber could be a low-risk replacement if we trade Marshall. A CUbs source has denied interest in Leiber.

I think that trading for Roberts is a strong move. It could really help improve the quality of the team, but I don't understand why everything else seems to have been put on the back burner to get this move done. Since so many other teams are in the market for starting pitching, wouldn't it make more sense to get that need taken care of first, and then move on to Roberts? I am not excited about a possible return of Lieber. He isn't going to be any better than Dempster or Marquis. If the whole reason of putting off the signing of a starting pitcher is so that we could get Lieber, than we are sadly heading in the wrong direction.
