According to New York Newsday, Japanese free agent outfielder Kosuke Fukudome has narrowed his choices to sign with a team to the Cubs and the Kansas City Royals. Fukudome was offered a 3 year contract from the San Diego Padres which would've earned him 10 million dollars a year. The Cubs are reportedly the front-runners. Fukudome may be intrigued by the Royals because of their signing of Japanese pitcher Yasuhiko Yubata. The Royals may not be able to offer him quite as much money as the Cubs because they just signed outfielder Jose Guillen to a 3 year 36 million dollar contract. The Cubs are very interested and are prepared to outbid everybody to sign Fukudome. Let's keep our fingers crossed!
